Northwest Animal Eye Specialists is fully equipped to perform eye examinations and eye surgeries.

The specialized diagnostic equipment of our practice includes slit-lamp biomicroscopes, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopes, a direct ophthalmoscope, Tono-PenĀ® tonometers, gonioscopic lenses, computerized electroretinographic (ERG) equipment, and a state-of-the-art ocular ultrasound machine.  We also have two types of instruments available to determine the indirect blood pressure of our patients suspected as being hypertensive.

Our specialized surgical equipment includes an operating microscope known for its superior optics, a diode laser used most commonly for glaucoma surgery but also for treatment of some types of retinal detachments and eye tumors, and a nitrous oxide cryosurgical unit for treatment of tumors and extraction of dislocated lenses.  A phacoemulsification machine allows cataract removal through a small incision and intraocular lenses provide optimal vision after surgical removal of the lens.  Orbital prosthetics are available for some cases that require eye removal.  Our newest piece of surgical equipment is the CO2 laser, which allows removal of some eyelid tumors without the need for general anesthesia.  This is particularly advantageous for elderly pets.

We make every effort to make general anesthesia as safe as possible.  Our comprehensive set of anesthetic monitors helps to achieve this goal.  Our monitors consist of a pulse oximeter, ECG, end-tidal CO2 monitor, blood pressure unit, and a nerve stimulator.  Isoflurane or sevoflurane gas is used.  A ventilator helps to ensure the adequacy of respirations in our anesthetized patients
